The Catch 19/05/2020

May 19, 2020

Hello!  Welcome to the latest issue of "The Catch", published fortnightly (with exceptions for a global pandemic) for Nassau's best rowing club.

A message from NRC President, Kyle Chea

Dear Nassau Rowing Club family:

I hope you are all doing well and using this time to not only take care of the people around you but most importantly, yourselves.

Adjusting to this new way of life has been a challenge for us all, but I applaud you for the efforts you have made to stay connected to one another and deepen our bonds not only as fellow rowers, club members, and Bahamians.

I've really enjoyed watching the member profiles, learning about how people discovered rowing, became involved with Nassau RC, and how both have become a part of your lives.

I am optimistic as the country begins to loosen restrictions and open up that we will be back on the water soon, more grateful, considerate, and empathetic than before.

Remembering my early days of rowing, I felt that if the seat behind or in front of me was pulling harder, I had to out-pull them, and it turns out they thought the same! In trying to go above and beyond for our fellow crew members, and them doing the same, we can go farther and faster than we ever thought possible. As we cautiously work toward the other side of this chapter in global public health and Bahamian history, let's remember: if you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.

Thank you for your continuing support and enthusiasm, and we look forward to getting back on the water with you once we get the official "all clear" from the Government. Take care, be well, and pull hard!

Timeline of re-opening The Bahamas

Hooray!  We have moved into Phase 2, Expanding Operations.  At this time, Nassau RC is still officially closed for team rowing and group workouts. Our Zoom workouts will continue.

Elite, Pre-elite, Collegiate, and athletes recruited to college for rowing will resume training first, and only in singles.  Please stay tuned to our Facebook and Instagram pages for updates as well. We hope to reach Phase 4 in time for summer camp to open by late June or early July.

"I started rowing because my mom signed me up for summer camp and I didn't really want to at first, because I didn't know what type of sport rowing was. Throughout the camp I started to like it because we would have fun, and also have times that we had to be serious and row. That's the type of sport I like to do, because you work hard".
